Elements and Performance Criteria

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

operate a light vehicle underground on at least two occasions, including:

organising work activities to comply with site standards

carrying out prestart checks and start-up checks on vehicle and ancillary equipment

identifying and clearly reporting environmental issues

clearly communicating with other personnel

carrying out start up procedures

operating, steering, manoeuvring and positioning vehicle and ancillary equipment

carrying out inspections and identifying faults

processing written records and reports

cleaning, maintaining and storing vehicle and all attachments.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures and confirm that the work activity is compliant

implement the requirements, procedures and techniques for operating a light vehicle underground

work effectively with others to operate a light vehicle underground in a way that meets all required outcomes

communicate clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions and to determine coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities.


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

key legislation required to operate a light vehicle underground

key policies, procedures and documentation required to operate a light vehicle underground, including:

organisation and site requirements and procedures

hazardous goods procedures and consequences of spills

operational procedures and checks

geological and technical data

principles and techniques for identifying and working within mine operational system

principles and techniques for identifying relevant hazards and emergencies

techniques for coordinating and communicating job activities with others.
